One Faux Leather Jacket, Three Ways

The Danielle Bernstein for Macy’s fall collection launched last week, and it did not disappoint. I somehow was able to exercise self-restraint and only purchased two items, but in my opinion, they’re the best two I could have gotten. The launch itself was so stressful, it was like trying to buy OSL tickets as soon as they went on sale. Certain styles sold out immediately, so I’m really lucky I was able to get the two things I wanted. There is still plenty left though, so check it out before it’s gone!

As soon as I tried on the nearly-as-soft-as-the-real-deal faux leather moto jacket, I knew I had to do a post showing it styled in a few different ways because it truly is so versatile for any season. A (faux) leather jacket is a staple item everyone should have in their arsenal, and a classic cut like this won’t go out of style. I had been searching for an eternity for one just like this and just never found a fit I liked enough to pull the trigger on…but the search is over!

Here are three different ways to style this baby, all leveraging my current favorite fall palette (black, brown, silver and white). But there are about a thousand outfits it will pair well with, and I’d love to see what you come up with. You can bet I’ll be sharing more of my ideas as the inspiration comes.

Look One: Leather on Snakeskin

Styled here with the second of the two DB items I ordered, I can already tell I’m going to be reaching for both of these items—together and separately—all fall & winter. The pants have a really soft lining which helps prevent the dreaded leather sweats, and the front zip is a cool detail that none of the other pants I own feature. They fit me like a glove, but are a tad too long—I have them invisibly pinned in these pics at the hem—so I might have them shortened. This is a recurring problem for me, being just shy of 5’3.

Outfits details: Danielle Bernstein faux snakeskin pants; white lace bodysuit (this is legit lingerie, so here are two similar options that look more street-appropriate); vintage Prada bag (here’s a similar version; Marc Fisher boots (mine are last season, here’s a current version); vintage sunnies.

Look Two: Evening Sleek

Styled here with a black midi cowl-neck slip dress and minimal heels, this is a look I might wear for a night out with my friends. I love the tension between the edgy jacket and the girly silhouette of this dress. I added an exaggerated side part, an ear crawler and a red lip to keep this feeling sleek and modern.

Outfit details: Isalis slip dress; Kendall + Kylie shoes; BaubleBar ear crawler (ancient, but similar); vintage Prada clutch via The RealReal; usual sunnies.

Look Three: Edgy Sweet

Styled here with a very romantic and delicate white dress and chunky western booties & jewelry, I wanted to show how to take a very pretty dress and muss it up a bit with some edgier silver hardware. And killer snakeskin boots, of course.

Outfit details: All Saints dress (Poshmark); Jeffrey Campbell booties; Amazon necklace; vintage Chanel bag; usual shades.
